Throughout the past week we have witnessed one of the most devastating natural disasters in our recent memory. Perhaps what is more devastating is that it happened in one of the poorest nations in the western hemisphere. For years, Haiti has been overrun with poverty, relying heavily on US aid to stabilize the young nation and buttress its infrastructure. This earthquake, however, has cracked the very foundations upon which so much has been built. More then ever, now, in Haiti’s dire distress, we must support those who due to no fault of their own are unable to support themselves.

Just as we rallied our brothers and non-brothers alike for Tsunami Relief effort in 2005 and India Earthquake Relief in 2004, so too now do we stand behind the people of Haiti with sympathy and outstretched hands. Now once again we are calling upon the good will of all who have a heart to take a moment and donate toward earthquake relief in Haiti.

On this page you will find information regarding opportunities to contribute toward Haitian relief and make a difference in helping a devastated people survive the most traumatic and displacing event in their lives. Please visit the event page to find out how you can help, or contact the event administrators for more information.

Sigma Beta Rho aids Haiti (Nationwide):

Sigma Beta Rho has teamed up with SOS Children’s Village to aid the unfortunate children who are suffering due to the Haiti disaster.

Please aid us as we collect donations and any other items to help the children in need in Haiti.

SOS Children’s Village (http://www.sos-usa.org) is an organization that builds villages across the globe, with the goal of providing a comfortable, family-oriented place to live for orphaned or abandoned children. The following quote from their website best explains their impact:

“Children who have been abandoned or orphaned come to SOS Children’s Villages where they are integrated into a loving family environment. They are nurtured and supported by an SOS Mother and up to 15 other children in their SOS home who become their SOS brothers and sisters. Strong bonds develop within these ‘SOS families’, and even after the children are grown and leave the village, these family relationships endure.”
